Dan Cimo, MSW (he/him)
Resident Therapist
As a gay therapist with a special focus on LGBTQ+ mental health and relationships, I work with individuals and couples to find relief from their most distressing emotional and relational patterns. Specific areas of interest include men’s issues, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, creativity, spirituality, grief, and trauma.
I am deeply committed to continuing my education and professional development. I have received advanced training in LGBTQ+ centered Emotionally Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, and Core Self Reclamation Therapy, and am in ongoing supervision and consultation in these models.
Through the process of therapy, you will learn to live your most authentic life and stand firmly in the fullness of your own core truths. We will work together to undo aloneness, expand emotional flexibility and creativity, and promote your inherent worth and resilience. Your home in your Core Self is waiting for you. You do not have to do this alone!
FAQs
Is this therapist taking new clients?
Yes, this therapist is accepting new clients at this time. (individuals & couples)
Do you take my insurance?
We are not in-network with health insurance companies. Most insurance companies will not reimburse for resident therapists. You may be able to utilize a health savings account to pay for sessions. Please contact your health savings account (HSA) and ask if therapy sessions with license-eligible clinicians are reimbursable for your particular HSA account.
How much do sessions cost?
QueerWell utilizes an equity pricing model that allows us to offer tiers of pricing options that each client can choose when they begin services (subject to availability). You can check that out here.
50-minute session rates:
Standard Plus Pricing = $120-140 Pay for you & a little more for someone else.
Standard Pricing = $110 - Pay the full fee for yourself.
Equity Pricing = $55 - Pay 50% of the standard rate for yourself.
What is a Resident Therapist?
All QueerWell Resident Therapists have completed their master’s degree in social work and are currently under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). Designated as supervisees in social work by the Virginia Department of Health Professions, these therapists engage in over two-years of post-master’s clinical practice and supervision leading to the LCSW credential.
Dan Cimo’s clinical supervisors are Nicole O-Pries, LCSW and Elizabeth Polinsky, LCSW, LMFT.
What if my therapist isn’t a good fit?
If you don’t feel like your therapist is a good match after your first session, let us know; we will gladly refund your first session fee and help you find other resources.
Can I see a QueerWell therapist if I am outside of Virginia?
Unfortunately, no. It would make a lot of sense if online counseling services could be made available regardless of location. Alas, antiquated regulations prevent us from providing therapy sessions whenever a person is located outside of Virginia. (This also applies to Virginia residents who may be traveling.)
