Melissa-Irene Jackson, LCSW (she/her)

Therapist

I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Clinical Social Work program with a focus in gendered violence intervention. I received supervision and training through my clinical internship at the YWCA of Richmond, during which I had the privilege of working with therapy clients who had experienced sexual assault, intimate partner or dating violence, and other trauma.

I have been working in various roles since 2015 with the trans community, and my own transition informs much of my passion for this work. My clinical education revolved around practice that is trauma-informed, and I have presented on trauma-informed practice with regard to LGBT+ populations and intersectionality in a variety of settings. I believe that for us to be successful practitioners, we must position ourselves as constant learners who practice in collaboration with you to help meet your needs.

I draw from a variety of theories of practice centered around the premise that speaking our truths out loud to another person is essential for us to grow as human beings. I want to help clients identify their needs, develop new perspectives, and lead fuller lives.

We are not in-network with health insurance companies. Most insurance companies will not reimburse for resident therapists. You may be able to a use a health savings account to pay for sessions. How much do sessions cost?

QueerWell utilizes an equity pricing model that allows us to offer tiers of pricing options that each client can choose when they begin services (subject to availability). You can check that out here.

What if my therapist isn’t a good fit?

If you don’t feel like your therapist is a good match after your first session, let us know; we will gladly refund your first session fee and help you find other resources.

Can I see a QueerWell therapist if I am outside of Virginia?

Unfortunately, no. It would make a lot of sense if online counseling services could be made available regardless of location. Alas, antiquated regulations prevent us from providing therapy sessions whenever a person is located outside of Virginia. (This also applies to Virginia residents who may be traveling.)
